My name is Rufus Carter. I’m 47 and I have been in recovery for 9 years. I’ve been working as a personal trainer for the past 6 years, but those 3 years in between beat me down. I let my physical health go, and my mental attitude kept getting worse. Job searching in that mental space was nearly impossible.

Looking at the scale one morning I decided I had had enough. I had already accomplished so much by making it to recovery, and I used that to pump myself back up. I told myself that if I can make into recovery I can make it to the gym every day!

My new life of recovery and working out keeps me above negative thoughts. I found the exercise and training experience so helpful and inspiring that I decided to make becoming a personal trainer my new career path. I shadowed a couple trainers at my local gym and was able to pick up my first client. Things have been building and building from there!
